The Webb City Lady Cardinals defeated Neosho 2-1 to win their first district title (video presentation) in program history. The Cardinals scored twice in the first half and then held on for a 2-1 win.
Allison Cundy scored the first goal of the game in the 12th minute. The sophomore drilled a kick from 27 yards out that went over the Wildcat goalie into the top right corner of the net (video highlight).
Senior Lauren Bryan converted a penalty kick in the 34th minute. The Wildcats were whistled for hand ball inside the box and Bryan found the back of the net for a 2-0 Cardinal lead. (video hightlight 2)
Neosho scored early in the second half, but the Cardinal defense limited the Wildcats to only three more shots the rest of the game. Senior goalkeeper Kimberly Gamez was credited with 4 saves in the game to earn the victory.
Webb City (14-6) will host Bolivar (16-1) next Tuesday in the section round of the state tournament.
