Cardinals headed to the district championship with 11-1 win

For the fifth consecutive season, the Cardinals are in the district championship game.  Behind the pitching of Landon Fletcher and the bat of Christian Brock, Webb City earned an 11-1 win over the Belton Pirates.

Christian Brock finished the game 3-4 with a HR an a double to lead the 13 hit output, as eight different starters recorded base hits on the afternoon.

Andrew Young and Mason Williams greeted the Pirate starter with back to back singles to open the home half of the first inning.  Brock drove home the first run with a sacrifice fly and Shadrach Salazar delivered a base hit to right to score run number two.

The Cardinals put up two runs in the third, scoring both on the same wild pitch.  Brock sprinted home from third on a pitch that just squirted away from the Pirate catcher.  Hunter Shull, who was on second, was taking third on the play and when the ball got away from the pitcher covering home, Shull kept right on motoring and scored the second run.

In the four run fourth, Brock drove a ball deep to left center that bounced over the fence for double driving in Drew Vonder Haar.  Then in his next at bat in the sixth, he launched his next hit far enough to clear the left center field wall for a 2 run shot.

Shadrach Salazar extended his hitting streak to eleven games with a two hit day.  Young also finished with two hits as did Hunter Shull, both of his doubles.

Landon Fletcher beat the Pirates for the second time this year, pitching five innings of two hit baseball. Striking out four, he did not issue a walk.  Payton Marshall closed out the sixth inning.

The Cardinals will face the Carl Junctin Bulldogs on Monday for the District 7 title.
