
Zach Davidson led the way with 13 points as Webb City defeated Tulsa Will Rogers 52-45 during the semifinals of the NEO Tournament's Boys' Gold bracket on Friday night at the college's Student Activity Center.
The Cardinals (7-8) will face Tulsa McLain in the bracket's championship game at 7:30 p.m. today.
Webb City led by as many as 18 points in the first half and held a 28-13 halftime advantage.
Davidson, who was in his second game back since breaking his wrist during a game against Carl Junction on Dec. 16, scored 10 points in the first half.
Three consecutive inside buckets from Davidson gave Webb City a 28-10 lead with 40 seconds left in the second quarter.
The Cardinal defense was effective, limiting Will Rogers to four field goals in the first half. The Ropers didn't score a basket in the paint until the 2:22 mark of the second quarter.
The Ropers did use a 12-3 run in the second half to cut Webb City's lead to 33-25 with 2:15 left in the third quarter.
Webb City guard Maquel Harbin hit a 3-pointer with 1:55 left to give the Cardinals a 48-37 lead.
Kaden Roy contributed 10 points for Webb City.
Webb City won their opening game of the tournament as they slipped past Guthrie 41-40 Thursday afternoon in a boys Gold Division in the annual Northeastern Oklahoma A&M high school basketball tournament.
Kaden Roy scored nine points and Tate Smith added eight to lead a balanced scoring attack for the Cardinals. Webb City outscored Guthrie 17-10 in the second quarter to turn a 12-8 first-period deficit into a 25-22 lead at the intermission.
