Scoring struggles continue, Cardinals drop third in a row

Three numbers stand out from this game.  6'7", 43 and 25.

Boasting a starting lineup averaging three inches taller than the Cardinals, Republic's big man at 6' 7" was an imposing obstacle as he ended up with 26 points and 10 rebounds.

Republic controlled the glass as they pulled down 43 rebounds, limiting the Cardinals with lots of one shot opportunities.

The one number the Cardinals led in for the night was being whistled for 25 fouls, half of the Tigers total.  This limited two of the Cardinals starters to less than half of their normal playing time and a deeper use of the bench and allowed the Tigers to attempt 26 free throws to the Cardinals nine.

No excuses, just numbers.

The Cardinals started off well, opening up a 9-2 lead in the opening half of the first quarter.  Webb City got stuck at nine as the Tigers rattled off the next 14 points to take a lead that never faltered.  Trailing by only nine at the break, 30-21, the Cardinals fell further behind as the Tigers scored the first nine points of the second half.   The mounting foul trouble and empty possessions never allowed the Cardinals to make any head way as the game came to end with a final 80-46 score.

Holton Keith finished with 16 while Slade Hurd fired in a career best 15 points, including three from long range.

The Cardinals look to put an end to the skid as the host Carthage on Tuesday at the Dome.
