Trailing 23-18 at the break, the Lady Cardinals caught the War Eagles at 25 in the midst of a 12-0 run and steadily pulled away for a 54-35 win at home.
The long run stretched from early in the second half till the middle of the fourth quarter and saw the Cardinals finish with a 24-3 run before a Heritage free throw at the 3:50 mark. In total, after Heritage held the 25-20 lead, the Cardinals outscored the War Eagles 34-9 to close the game.
Abby Sargent finished with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the team in each category. She was 13 of 18 from the free throw line. Addie Burns added 11 in the win. Whitlee Keith hit two three's on her way to 8 points and senior Kirra Long chipped in seven.
The Lady Cardinals out rebounded the War Eagles 35-26 and forced them into 30 turnovers.
The next game is on the road at Logan-Rogersville on Thursday night. The varsity game will begin about 6:00 p.m.
