Other than the score being tied at half, neither team could have been happy with their play. The only stat that you could feel good about was a 7 of 9 from the free throw line combined but 9 of 35 from the field and 20 turn overs were the reason that the scoreboard only showed a 14-14 game.
Glendale broke free first in the second half. Seven unanswered in the first two and half minutes put the visitors up 21-14. A block by Jenna Shulz on the next trip down the floor helped put a stop the Falcons scoring spree. The Cardinals then turned up the defensive pressure and made a statement of their own going on a 17-3 run over the next eight minutes to take a 31-24 lead. Two field goals from Brecklynn Sargent and 5-8 shooting from the free throw line put the final touches on a 40-28 win.
After the dismal first half of shooting, the Cardinals heated up shooting 8 of 12 from the field including 4 of 8 from long range in the second half. Whitlee Keith scored all 10 of her points in the scoring run to lead the team. Adalyn Maxwell was next with eight, 2-2 from the field and 4-5 from the charity stripe. She grabbed six rebounds, matched by Abby Sargent and Addie Burns.
The Cardinals finish with an 8-1 record over the month of January.
They will be on the road at Kickapoo and Republic next week.
