Cardinals move to 3-0 with a 15-2 thrashing of Springdale

Patience at the plate and timely hitting propelled the Cardinals to a 15-2 win over Springdale in a Thursday afternoon matchup at Chuck Barnes Field.

Spotting the Bulldogs two runs in the first half inning, the Cardinals took advantage of three consecutive walks to load the bases in the bottom of the first with only one out.  Shadrach Salazar greeted the new Springdale pitcher with a single up the middle scoring both Sam Weller and Shaun Hunt.  Courtesy runner Brody Eggleston scored the third run of the inning as he scampered home on a wild pitch and the Cardinals found themselves back on top 3-2 after the first inning.

A walk, single and a Bulldog error loaded the bases again in the bottom of the second and the Cardinals scored twice, the first as Hunt was hit by a pitch and Drew Vonder Haar followed that with a run scoring ground ball to second.

It was the third inning where Webb City blew the game open as they sent 11 batters to the plate, collecting six hits and two walks.  Christian Brock jumped on the first pitch of the inning and blasted it over the left field wall for a solo home run.  After a walk to Mason Williams, Cohen Epler drove a double down the left field line, scoring courtesy runner Andrew Elwell with Epler moving up to third on the throw home.  Andrew Young then lifted a sac fly to right field allowing Epler to score the eighth Cardinal run.  Later in the inning Vonder Haar and Salazar both drove in single runs with Brock driving in the last two runs.

Webb City plated their final three runs in the fourth.  Pinch hitters Brock Renfro and Payton Marshall each walked to open the inning and scored on a triple off the bat of Andrew Young.  Young scored the final run on a Weller single.

Young, Weller, Salazar and Brock each finished with two hits, with Young, Salazar and Brock each driving in three runs.

Vonder Haar earned the win, scattering four hits over his five innings of work.  Allowing only 2 runs, he struck out 3 in the 65 pitch complete game.
