Cardinals escape with walk off 8-7 win over Lakes Community

The Cardinals took advantage of hit batter and throwing error to score the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh to earn an 8-7 walk off win over Lakes Community on Thursday.

Webb City opened the scoring in their half of the second inning when Cohen Epler dropped a two run single into left center scoring Christian Brock and Hunter Shull.  They added three more in the third, the first a result of a double to deep center off the bat of Shaun Hunt.  Shull drove in the final runs of the inning with a sharp single to right.

The Cardinals led 5-1 before the Eagles began to mount their comeback scoring three runs in both the sixth and seventh inninng  to tie the game at six.

Shadrach Salazar was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the seventh.  After advancing to second on a wild pitch, pinch hitter Landen Piette laid down a bunt down the third base line that the Eagles were unable to make a play on as Salazar moved to third.  A ground ball to third that was thrown away allowed Salazar to score the winning run.

Drew Vonder Haar and Shaun Hunt each finished with two hits.  Hunt, Shull and Epler each drove in two runs.

Luke Beverlin worked the first 5 2/3, allowing four runs on six hits.  He struck out three in the non-decision.  Payton Marshall was the beneficiary of the win, finishing the final 1 1/3.
