High scoring 2nd inning pushes Cardinals to victory against McDonald County

By Zach Dobbs

MCDONALD COUNTY, Mo. -- A cold afternoon didn't stop Cardinals Baseball from scoring double digits.

Webb City, on their 5th straight road game, travelled to McDonald County today in a rematch from last year's District Championship. Cardinals entered the game with an 8-2 record, and McDonald County was 1-7.

In the 1st inning, Drew Vonder Haar got things rolling with a hit to midfield. A Mustangs miscommunication led to the ball going untouched, which helped Shaun Hunt take it home for the run.

The 2nd inning is where the game opened up for the Cardinals. Cohen Epler grounded it to left field and McDonald County's Brody Roessler mishandled the catch at home plate. The miscue let Hunter Shull slide into home base.

Adding insult to injury, Christian Brock at bat crushed the ball to left field for a 3-run home run. Cardinals scored 7 points in the 2nd inning.

A great pitching performance by Luke Beverlin, who had multiple strikeouts, helped seal a 13-0 Cardinals victory after 5 innings.

Webb City returns home on Thursday to take on the Neosho Wildcats.
