Cardinals fall at Glendale 5-4

Cardinals fall at Glendale 5-4

An unearned run in the bottom of the seventh for the Falcons toppled the Cardinals 5-4 on Saturday in Springfield.

Webb City out hit Glendale 9-4, but the Falcons were able to manufacture single runs in the both the sixth and the seventh innings to escape with the win.

Andrew Young singled to open the contest, stole second and scored on a single from Shaun Hunt to give Webb City a quick 1-0 lead.

The Falcons responded with a sacrifice fly to score a single run in the bottom of the first and added two more in the third on another sac fly and a bases loaded walk.

Four singles, a walk and hit helped the Cardinals score three times in the sixth to take a 4-3 lead.  Hunt was plunked to start the inning and back to back singles from Drew Vonder Haar and Christian Brock loaded the bases.  An RBI ground out from Shadrach Salazar and consecutive singles from Hunter Shull and Mason Williams plated the three runs.

A hit batter, stolen base and two ground outs from the Falcons in the bottom of the sixth knotted the score at 4.

Webb City threatened in the top of the seventh with Vonder Haar drawing a two out walk and found themselves with runners on the corner courtesy of a Falcon error, but both were left stranded as the inning came to a close.

An error created the opportunity in the bottom half for the Falcons.  A sac bunt moved the runner up to second and a single to right brought an end to the contest.

Hunt and Shull both had two hits each, with Vonder Haar extending his hitting streak to seven with his sixth inning single.

Cohen Epler went 2 2/3 in the start, allowing three runs on two hits, walking two and striking out one.  Landen Piette went the next 2 2/3, only surrendering one run on one hit.  Brett Korth was tagged with the loss, giving up one hit over his one full inning of work.

Webb City returns to COC play on Tuesday with a trip to Branson.
