Cardinals slip past Republic 2-1

Cardinals slip past Republic 2-1

Trailing 1-0 since the bottom of the first, the Cardinals found a way to score twice in the top of the seventh to grab a 2-1 win at Republic.  The win keeps Webb City tied atop the COC standings with a 3-0 mark.

Held to five hits over the first six innings, the Cardinals Sam Weller was hit by a pitch to open the top of the seventh.  Hunter Shull moved him up to second with a sacrifice bunt.  Mason Williams drove in Weller with the tying run with a double to right.  A walk to Cohen Epler and a single to left off the bat of Andrew Young loaded the bases with only one out.  Drew Vonder Haar drove in the winning run with a sac fly to center as Brody Eggleston (running for Williams) tagged up from third.

Landon Fletcher limited the Tigers to only three hits in the complete game pitching victory.  Republic got a first inning solo home run, a single in the fifth and a two out double in the seventh.  Retiring nine in a row in the middle innings, he struck out five, walked two, needing only 77 pitches to complete the gem

Andrew Young collected three of the seven hits for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals play at Hillcrest on Friday.
