5 run fourth inning pushes Cardinals past Marshfield

5 run fourth inning pushes Cardinals past Marshfield

Less than 24 hours after a conference clinching win, the Cardinals were back at Barnes Field to battle the Marshfield Blue Jays in a Saturday afternoon matinee.

Webb City had runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings but were unable to push a run across against the Blue Jays.  In the fourth, Hunter Shull and Brody Eggleston opened the inning with back to back singles.  Moving up 90 feet on a sac bunt from Cohen Epler, they both scored on a Sam Weller base hit.  Another single from Andrew Young and a walk to Mason Williams loaded the bases with only one out.  A run scoring ground out from Shaun Hunt plated run number three.  Christian Brock drove in the final two runs of the inning and the Cardinals led 5-0.

That was all the runs the Cardinal pitching staff would need.  Landon Fletcher drew the start and worked into the fifth inning.  Allowing only three hits, he was charged with two unearned runs in the fifth as he gave way to Brett Korth for the final inning and a third.

The Cardinals erased three Blue Jays from the base paths on the afternoon.  Mason Williams gunned down two would be base stealers and Korth back picked a runner off first base as Shaun Hunt snuck in behind the Marshfield runner at first base to end the sixth inning.

Young, Brock and Shull had two hits each to lead the 11 hit attack.  Brock and Weller each drove in two.

The Cardinals will finish the regular season with a trip to Kickapoo on Wednesday and a final home game Thursday with Parkview.
