Webb City runs away with Joplin Invitational

BY JIM HENRY

The Cardinals won 11 events in the boys division, including James Morgan's sweep in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles and relay victories in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x800.

Other individual winners were Mekhi Garrard in the triple jump, Pryce Mason in the pole vault, Luke Brumit in the high jump, and a sweep in the distance races by Cole Cooper in the 800, Joseph Dawson in the 1600 and Marcos Encarnacion to lead a 1-2-3-4 finish in the 3200 with less than three seconds separating the quartet.

"It was kind of an up and down day for us," Cardinals coach Dustin Miller said. We had some events that guys and girls competed hard. Marks ... who cares what they were when we competed hard and well. And we had other events where we didn't look like ourselves.

"Our throwers did well today. Our shot put and discus guys had a good day. Our vaulters had another good day. In the triple jump Mekhi backed up a great meet last week (at Pittsburg State) with another solid one today. I was proud of the way he juggled a bunch of events and still jumped well. I was proud of the way Pryce did both hurdles events and still jumped well. Our 4x100 had great exchanges for the first time all year, great exchanges."
