Lady Cards Soccer ends losing streak in dramatic overtime win

WEBB CITY, Mo. -- The Webb City Lady Cardinals soccer team faced a tough challenge tonight, entering the game on a 5-game losing streak. Their opponents, the 11-2 Carl Junction Lady Bulldogs.

 

In the first half, the Bulldogs came out strong, applying early pressure. Freshman Ella Anderson took a shot towards the right of the goal, but Webb City's goalkeeper, Addison Brown, blocked it. Brown proved to be a key player throughout the game, making several crucial saves.

 

It was a stalemate at 0 at the end of the first half.

 

As the game neared its end in regulation time, Carl Junction's Sara Buchele made an attempt to score, but Brown pulled off an incredible one-handed block, keeping the Cardinals in the game.

 

As the match headed into overtime, the Bulldogs continued to push for a win, but once again, Brown came through with another game-saving block, keeping the Cardinals' hopes alive.

 

With just three minutes remaining in overtime, Cardinals' Avery Allen seized the opportunity, striking the ball into the net for the golden goal, ending the teams' 5-game losing streak.

 

Webb City defeated Carl Junction 1-0 in overtime. Cardinals are back at home to take on Ozark for their next matchup.
