Lady Cardinals earn title at Joplin Invitational

Webb City's girls picked up 10 victories, headlined by double winners Riley Hawkins (1600, 3200), Talyn Smith (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles) and Octavia Duncan (shot put, discus).

The Cardinals' other wins came from Rachel Davison and Alexia Jimenez in the 800 and 1600, respectively, and the 4x400 and 4x800 relays.

"I feel like the girls are coming along nicely," Cardinals coach Jeremy Butler said. "This is a good, quality local meet for us to compete in. We're so grateful that Joplin hosts. I feel like we're finding where our better pieces are and moving things around. This is a good meet for us to try some different things and see what we can do to grow as a program.

"I think we were pretty consistent. Our throws continue to develop. On the track we looked a little stronger. We're trying to find some other pieces in the verticals and horizontals (jumping events)."
